The term art is not only restrained to painting or sketching, everything that we see in the region of our eye forms an art. Art is a way to make the earth a more beautiful place to dwell in. life is also a form of art, we are the artists of our life, we can tint it in the way we want. Some people make life an art and some make art their life. Justifying the later statement is Prof. Him Chatterjee who made art his life. he is a professor and chairman of the Department of Visual Arts, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. His area of expertise is master strokes not only with brushes and colors but also with pen, pencil, and charcoal.
Prof..Him Chatterjee drew the brainwave from his father, to make art his profession. He is a very versatile artist, as has made many fine paintings, murals, sculptures, sketching, etc. fellow-buffalo is the series of sketches he did as a challenge to make it possible to recognize the gender of buffalos by such sketches. Most of his paintings are the illustration of hills, mountains, waves, etc. The entire session was based on art, teaching us numerous perspectives in which we can feel and admire art forms. The fame of his murals and sculptures echo far and wide which can even be seen in many airports. He proved that an artist can turn anything into beautiful art and there is no limitation when it comes to art field, implying the same he carved art on pillars of various buildings. S.A.F Sanat art foundation is founded by prof Chatterjee and is one of the must-visit places in Shimla.
Prof. Him Chatterjee's imperative assignments take account of his more than 100 murals and Artworks designed and installed at the different corners of India- in Varanasi International, Jammu, and Goa Airports, CAG office-New Delhi, DDU College Dwarka, New Delhi, SSD college Rohini, New Delhi, On Delhi New Flyovers, NSG-HQ-New Delhi, at Manesar, Gurgaon, at Mall Road- Solan, at Mall Road- Shimla, NAAA Shimla, portrait at Parliament House- New Delhi, etc. His intangible landscapes on canvases and pen drawings of several historical buildings of India display high quality. His exhibits feature in many Art galleries, Indian Institute for Advanced Study, Shimla, Parliament House, New Delhi, and in many prominent public places in India. Among his several National and State level awards are the recognitions given for his contribution in the field of art by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and International Film Festival, New Delhi in 2014 and NGO “Sanchetna” in 2009, Himachal Pradesh Shikhar Samman By Himachal Government 2017. Awarded the Rashtriya Sawasti Samman by the Kalavart Nayas 23rd International Art Festival at Ujjain, M.P. - December 2018 for the contribution in the field of Indian Contemporary Art. He has participated in more than 80 National and International Seminars and Art Workshops, and more than 70 group shows and also held his 11 Solo shows.
He advises young nascent artists to keep patience and have discipline towards their work. Explaining the importance of mastering the art by suggesting not to take up the job early in a career rather wait till they have mastered their field and solicits them to paint to express themselves not to impress others. His works are a mirror for any budding artist explaining the growth and hard work required to become a professional artist.
